Prospex 1970 Diver's Modern Re-Interpretation Naomi Uemura Limited Edition SLA069
1970 Diver’s Watch Modern Re-Interpretation Naomi Uemura Limited Edition. Designed for those who treat life as the ultimate adventure, the Seiko Prospex line meets every challenge with technological excellence and style. Part of a rich legacy of innovation in high-intensity timekeeping, Prospex continues to celebrate a long history of sports watch expertise with re-creations and re-interpretations of landmark achievements. A tribute to legendary adventurer, Naomi Uemura, this extraordinary timepiece, available only in a controlled-production run of 500, with the serial number engraved on each caseback, is a re-interpretation of Seiko’s renowned 1970 diver’s watch, prized for its flowing lines, solid construction, then-remarkable 150-meter water resistance, and protected crown at 4 o’clock. This exceptional watch proved its reliability in extreme conditions when it was worn by Uemura during his 1,200-kilometer solo journey across the Arctic Circle. To commemorate Uemura’s distinction as the first mountaineer to reach the summits of the highest peaks on five continents, the textured white dial features an image of the distinctive silhouette of Europe’s Mont Blanc, the first of these climbs. Depicting the mountain from the angle Uemura used for his ascent, the dial uses pressing and etching to add depth and evoke the rocky and snowy surface. The blue of the crown and the edge of the black uni-directional elapsed timing bezel suggests the blue shadows cast on the snow surrounding the peak. Crafted of stainless steel with durable super-hard coating, this masterfully updated design is powered by the caliber 8L35 26-jewel automatic movement, hand-assembled at Seiko’s Shizukuishi watch studio with the increased torque necessary for smooth operation of the enlarged diver’s watch hands, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, power reserve of approximately 50 hours, and manual winding capability. Following ISO standards for scuba diving to depths of up to 200 meters, this superbly functional watch includes a date calendar, LumiBrite markers and hands for enhanced legibility, a curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, screwdown crown and caseback, and tri-fold push button release clasp with secure lock and extender. Packaged in a Limited Edition collectors’ box inscribed with Uemura’s words “When one dream is realized, other dreams will follow.” 200m Water Resistant
