Jerry Seinfeld seems to be defecting from the Breitling camp. The comedian turned watch spotters’ heads at the New York premier of the Sex and the City movie by sporting a classic Breguet Marine wristwatch, rather than only of his usual Breitling timepieces. Breitling has previously enjoyed a faithful and exclusive relationship with the comedian and avid watch collector. It seems that the funny man is expanding his horologic horizon and exploring other options in fine Swiss watches, albeit in alphabetical order.

Borat star wears TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer would be wise to shout from the rooftops that comedian Sacha Baron Cohen wears one of their wristwatches. The comedian, best known for 2006 run-away hit Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, was photographed wearing a TAG Heuer Aquaracer while hanging out with wife Isla Fisher and their baby daughter Olive. Initially, residents of Kazakhstan filed a lawsuit against the actor for his “mockumentary” which they felt painted Kazakhstan in an unfair light. The country of Kazakhstan only decided to drop the lawsuit against Cohen when a reported 15% increase in tourism to Kazakhstan resulted from the popularity of Cohen’s movie and his “Borat” character on the Da Ali G Show.

A “pro” watch

TAG Heuer ambassador Tiger Woods won his 14th major professional golf title this summer at the 2008 PGA US Open played at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California.  Woods won with an injured knee – Tiger had undergone arthroscopic surgery two months prior – but was victorious over golfer Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole final playoff between the two players.

Formula One’s rising star

Lewis Hamilton, the rookie phenomenon of the 2007 Formula One season, charmed the crowd at the opening of the “TAG Heuer 360” Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, answering questions about his childhood, career, and even his choice of wristwatch. The British racing star became an ambassador for the TAG Heuer brand in 2004 when Hamilton was just nineteen years old! The 2008 opening of the museum had guests eager to discuss Hamilton’s upcoming second season in one of the world’s most popular and prestigious sports: Formula One racing.

Lewis Hamilton’s gift for racecar driving was discovered early, and the youngster was karting by the age of eight. The British born Hamilton is of Grenadian descent and his mixed heritage distinguishes him as the first black driver to compete in Formula One. He is often compared to a fellow TAG Heuer ambassador, Tiger Woods, for his unusual skill at an early age and for a having his father act as integral coach and mentor. Both men are praised for their precision and determination and thus are proudly supported by the brand.

Lewis, who races for the McLaren Mercedes Vodafone team, made headlines for his unparalleled rookie success but also disagreements with former teammate and world champion Fernando Alonso. Hamilton, not your ordinary rookie, was not to be outshone by a supposedly older and more experienced driver. Hamilton renewed his contract with the McLaren Mercedes Vodafone team and his fame continues to grow as the world takes notice of the budding superstar.

TAG Heuer wishes Maria Sharapova a happy 21st birthday

Maria Sharapova has certainly aced her first twenty-one years. The Russian tennis star is a remarkable athlete, a decorated competitor, and oh, just happens to be stunningly gorgeous. Sharapova has already won Wimbledon, U.S. Open, and Australian Open titles in her short career. A TAG Heuer ambassador since 2004, the prestigious Swiss watch brand celebrated Sharapova by throwing her a grand slam birthday bash.

Sharapova’s 21st birthday party, hosted by TAG Heuer, was held at the ultra hip club Tenjune in New York on April 22nd, 2008. Guests rocked the night away to Maria’s favorite dance tunes spun by DJ Cassidy. TAG Heuer President Ulrich Wohn was on hand to present the birthday girl with a towering white and pink cake - the same colors as Maria’s signature TAG Heuer Formula 1 Glamour Diamonds wristwatch.

Omega recruited the “Sexiest Man Alive” for their “Watchmakers Wanted” campaign, designed to allure future watchmakers into the highly skilled craft. Oscar-winning actor George Clooney, an Omega brand ambassador since March 2007, is featured in the internationally circulated advertisement - barring the United States and Canada – wearing a white lab coat and a watchmaker’s loupe. Clooney is a far cry from his usual suave self in the Omega advertisement, yet his gaze is so earnest and convincing that Clooney succeeds in giving off the impression of an authentic watchmaker. In fact, Clooney is somewhat of the real deal. Clooney tried his hand at watch making while on the set of the photo shoot and Omega reports that he was quite the natural!

Gucci makes limited edition timepieces

The House of Gucci is one of the most recognizable luxury brands on the planet. The Italian fashion company gained “in-house” control over their timepiece line in 1997 and since then have produced their watches with the luxury image and quality standard that has come to be expected of their wide array of fashion products.

In 2008, Gucci will release two special edition timepieces. The “New York Signoria” is an exclusive wristwatch sold only at the newest and largest Gucci store located on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Gucci offers a beautiful line of “Signoria Collection” timepieces which are not sold in exclusively at the New York location. Gucci will also release their “” in honor of this summer’s Olympic games in Beijing, China. The watch features a sporty red rubber strap with an engraved Gucci signature logo and is the first digital timepiece available from the manufacturer!

Vertu, the phone for the ultra trendsetters

OMEGA featured in upcoming Quantum of Solace

OMEGA returns to the silver screen this upcoming November in the 22nd James Bond adventure film Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig reprisesq his role as James Bond in the MGM/ Columbia Pictures’ release of the EON Productions’ film, directed by Marc Forster.  James Bond will once again don a classic OMEGA Seamaster in the upcoming spy classic. The iconic British secret agent will be equipped with the OMEGA Seamaster 300 M Diver Chronometer, a watch complete with exclusive OMEGA Co-Axial movement.

OMEGA will release a brand new 007 Seamaster Diver 300 M in July 2008 in celebration of Quantum of Solace. James Bond’s trademark blue bezel has been replaced by a sleek, all-black design. Only 10,007 of these limited edition wristwatches will be sold.

The James Bond character’s history with the luxury Swiss timepiece maker dates back to 1995, with the series’ Golden Eye film.
